COVID-19: What You Need to Know

The University of Arkansas System eVersity has the benefit of being a 100 percent-online university and students never have to visit a campus to access national award-winning coursework. While the institution has ensured the health and safety of its internal employees, it does not intend to alter its general course of business at this time. However, we know our students’ lives are being affected during the course of the COVID-19 pandemic and we will work to accommodate any special needs of students when possible. Below is some valuable information as we navigate through this time of uncertainty.

Dear eVersity Community,

 

While remaining positive and acting proactively to ensure business and home life continues as normally as possible, recent events related to COVID-19 have been unsettling and continue to be rapidly evolving. This pattern is expected to continue for the next several weeks and will likely impact virtually every aspect of our way of life in varying degrees.

 

Given the fluid nature of this crisis, I want you to know that the staff at eVersity will work rapidly and diligently to support the needs of our students. During my entire career in higher education, I can honestly say that I have never met a group of individuals more dedicated and singularly focused on student success than the staff at eVersity.

 

Let me offer a few observations:

 

  • * The health and safety of all members of the eVersity community and their families is our No. 1 priority. Other information listed on this page provides some important contact information in the event that students need health or coursework assistance.

  • * We’ve decided to postpone the graduation celebration we have been actively planning that was originally scheduled for May. We’ll select a new date for commencement once the crisis has passed. While this deeply saddens me, I know we will properly acknowledge our students’ commitment and hard work at a more appropriate time.

  • * In many respects, eVersity is well-equipped to support your educational needs during this pandemic. While many universities are forced to scramble to get together the bare bones of an online learning experience, our courses have been designed from the start to support 100 percent-online learning. The course material is robust, engaging, and is led by faculty members who have rich experience in teaching online. In fact, we continually win national awards as a result. Moreover, you have access to a dedicated support staff accustomed to supporting online students. Our one course-at-a-time format offered at affordable rates is well-suited to allow our students to continue to make progress towards graduation in a rapidly changing environment.

  • *We know our students are highly resilient having already overcome many challenges in their lives. No doubt COVID-19 is a serious obstacle, but we know our students will clear this hurdle, just as they have cleared other hurdles in their lives. Still, if you face an unexpected challenge or an obstacle that seems insurmountable, please contact our advisors, financial aid staff and others. We’re here to help you and there may be things we can do to provide flexibility during this unusual time. Again, contact information is also listed on this page.

  • * Be Safe. Be Calm. Be Focused. The experts remind us that if we remain safe and take common sense precautions, that this pandemic will eventually pass. We will emerge from the other side. In the meantime, remain calm, use the critical thinking skills you have developed to listen to correct sources of information, make sound decisions, and remain focused on your larger goals. The pandemic will end and when it does, we want you closer to graduation than you are today.

Dear Students,

Being suddenly faced with so much uncertainty in our lives — school cancellations, work suspensions, health concerns, paychecks — due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we want to remain the steady, positive force in your life that’s making things better for you. 

By design, we’re already prepared to carry on as normal during this time of extreme precaution. We might not have realized it when we launched four years ago, but times like this have proven to be yet another benefit of being a 100 percent-online institution with built-in student support mechanisms and high-quality, national award-winning online instruction already in place. 

So if things get tough for you during this time, whether it’s dealing with additional things to juggle with kids being home and trying to stay on top of work demands or caring for loved ones who might be at risk or anything in between, we’ve got your back. While we’re monitoring the situation closely, we plan to carry on as normal and keep you on track to becoming a college graduate. And if you need help or any special assistance to keep up with your coursework, as always, please reach out to your course instructor or our friendly and helpful academic success advisors. We will keep you informed if anything does change.
